‘Pop Culture’ Halloween Costumes and Other Tricks
Halloween will be here before you know it, along with plenty of frightful parties and scary bashes. Are you more traditional when choosing a Halloween costume, or are you a trendsetter and all about choosing costumes that tie into current pop culture? The online version of People magazine and Buzzfeed offer great lists of the most popular pop culture costumes of 2022. Of course, the typical witch, ghost, or serial killer costumes are always a hit, but if you'd like to dress up as your favorite movie or television character, then now is the time to find the perfect costume.
Whether you prefer to create your own concoction or buy a costume online or in-store, this week is the time to do it! Here are the top picks for 2022: Maddy & Cassie from Euphoria, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker, Elvis Presley, Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family, Hell Fire Club's Eddie Munson or Sadie from Stranger Things, Harley Quinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Rhaenyra from Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon, Hop from Bullet Train in her fab pink suit, Grabber from Black Phone (scary!), Amanda Seyfried as the Drop Out, Ken & Barbie from The Barbie Movie, She-Hulk, Pam & Tommy, The Batman, Moon Knight, Dove in the 'Breakfast" music video, Doctor Strange, Julia Garner as Inventing Anna, Fighters in Cobra Kai, Maverick from Top Gun, Bridgerton epic period attire, or stay horrified in the red suit and hat worn by Ricky "Jupe" Park in Nope. Whew! That's quite the list! These are great suggestions, or choose from a list of other favorite shows to create your costume!
Moons ago, I came up with some interesting ideas for pop culture costumes. Let's see, one year, I decked out in a black beret and pea coat while striking a "cool as sh*t" pose with a toy rifle (not encouraged) to master the look of heiress Patty Hearst when she participated in a bank robbery with her abductors the SLA (Symbionese Liberation Army) in the 70s. As the story goes, Hearst appeared to embrace and idealize her time as a hostage and eventually did prison time. She became well known on TV but in a different capacity on the evening news. As for the costume, acquaintances and friends were like, "what are you supposed to be?" LOL! Other years referencing pop culture, I was Jake from the Blues Brothers and Wonder Woman. Come on, you know you wore a cape for at least one of your costumes back in the day, so don't judge. Ha!
So, here's to finding the perfect costume for all your Halloween festivities this month! Go for that stylish or flat-out creepy look. Maybe you'd even like to go as your favorite sports icon or a home appliance. You heard right! One year, a friend went as a washing machine, but the cumbersome features of the costume made it hard to dance, so keep that in mind. So, let us know! What do you think you'll choose, traditional or that pop culture look? Either way...DO YOU, and have fun in the process! Happy Halloween!
