A Look At Several Memorial Day Ceremonies Around Montana
Earlier this week we laid out the schedule for the placing of flags in Butte, and also the list of activities on Memorial Day in the Mining City. I was able to find a few other Memorial Day ceremonies around Montana if you aren’t in the Butte area.
In Great Falls, Memorial Day activities will be centered around the Montana Veterans Memorial. The Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2 pm, with the time-honored U.S. Navy tradition of ringing eight bells to honor the end of the watch for fallen comrades.
The keynote speaker will be Kelly Ackerman, the head of the Montana Veterans Affairs Division. Ackerman has worked with the agency for 19 years and is a U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard Veteran.
In Bozeman, there will be a Memorial Day Parade, starting at 9:30am. The parade will start at the corner of N. 7th ave, and E. Main St.
The Grand Marshal of the 2023 Memorial Day parade in Bozeman will be Richard Barr. Richard is a graduate of the University of Montana, and was part of the ‘Seawolves’ in Vietnam, stationed on a helicopter gunship.
Three Seawolves are the most decorated squadron of the Vietnam War, and arguably in all of Naval Aviation History. You can read more about the parade and Richard Barr, on the American Legion Post #14 website.
There will be a Memorial Day Ceremony in Laurel on Monday as well. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website, the Laurel Ceremony will take place at 1:00 pm at the Yellowstone National Cemetery.
