The Bulldogs look to take down the Eagles
Friday will be a very rare occurrence in the current Butte High Basketball schedule.
Are you sitting down?
Ok, the lady Bulldogs have a home game!
I know, I couldn’t believe it either.
The Butte High girls last played in Butte on December 15th. What remains of January is not much kinder, with Home games against Capital on the 26th, and Butte Central on the 31st. There is a silver lining though, the ladies will be at home for the bulk of February, as they make their second trip through the conference.
Butte High enters their Friday matchup against Big Sky with a 1-5 record overall, 0-3 in Western AA play. The important part is the ladies are playing hard. The effort is there, the desire to get better is there, things will start to fall into place. Butte High has two ladies averaging 10 points a game, they are Emmarie Richards and Laura Rosenleaf. Payton Clary had the hot hand against Hellgate, leading Butte High with 9 points, she enters Friday averaging 5 a game, and Brityn Stewart enters averaging 6 points a game.
The Big Sky Eagles make their way to Butte with a 2-5 overall record, and 0-3 in Western AA play. Their conference losses coming to Helena High, Capital, and this past Tuesday Sentinel. The Eagles are led by sophomore Kadynce Couture getting 12 points a game. Sadie McGuinn is next at 7, and Avory DeCoite with 6 points a game.
A Heads Up: The Butte High boys’ game time has been changed to 5 pm for the varsity matchup.
The Butte High Boys will be reintroduced to the bus tomorrow as they head to Missoula to take on the Eagles. Following the loss to Missoula Hellgate, the Bulldogs are 3-3 overall, and 2-1 in Western AA play. Freshman Hudson Luedtke is the Dogs leading scorer at 14 points a game. He has led Butte in scoring 3 of their 6 games. The thing I really like to see in the book is the number of different guys scoring. Jonas Sherman has been the leading scorer once, Cameron Gurnsey has as well, Jace Stenson has had great output, and sharpshooter Casey Merrifield’s name is there as well. Coach Luedtke has a great arsenal of weapons at his disposal. Jace Stenson has just been consistent, getting 10 points and 5 rebounds a game. Cameron Gurnsey is averaging 9 a game, and Merrifield 6 a game.
The Eagles knocked off Missoula Sentinel in the Big Sky gym on Tuesday night, 57-42, for their first conference win, and second win overall. Big Sky was led by Patrick Sale with 13 in the win. He was the only Eagle to hit double figures. Big Sky (2-5, 1-2) has 3 guys averaging double figures, Izaiah Reed at 12 points a game, Josiah Cuaresma at 11, and Aidan Beard with 10 a game. Beard at 6’5” also averages 6 rebounds a game.
After Friday, the Bulldogs will both be off until Friday the 20th, when the Boys host Sentinel, and the Girls (back on the bus) at Sentinel.
