Maroon Boys look towards Western A Divisional

The Butte Central Boys Basketball team has wrapped up the regular season and are preparing for the upcoming Western A Divisional Tournament which will be played in Ronan February 23-25.  Here is what we know as final seedings are being put together.

SOUTHWESTERN "A"

The Maroons are 17-1 heading into the tournament and appear to have all the tools they need to successfully defend their title.  They are undefeated in conference play and will take the #1 seed out of the Southwest A.  Here is how the seeds will play out.

 

  1. Butte Central
  2. Hamilton
  3. Dillon
  4. Frenchtown
  5. East Helena
  6. Corvallis
  7. Stevensville

Seeds 1-3 move on to the divisional tournament. Seeds 4-7 will have play-ins to determine the 4th team from the SW Conference at the Divisional Tournament.  The play-in games will be Thursday with Frenchtown hosting Stevensville and East Helena hosting Corvallis.  The winners of those two games will meet on Saturday to determine the fourth and final seed out of the Southwest.

NORTHWESTERN 'A'

The strength in the Northwest lies with the Browning Indians and the Columbia Falls WildKats.  Columbia Falls has the best record in the Northwest at 15-3 with their losses coming to Browning on the road, 83-79 another road loss to Class B Bigfork 61-48 and a season-opening loss to Corvallis, 66-57.  Columbia Falls will be the top seed out of the Northwest.  Second-seeded Browning, after dropping their first three games of the season has gone 14-1 and sports a 14-4 overall record.  Their lone loss during their streak was to Havre, out of the Northeast A, 77-69.   Polson at 7-11 will be seed #3 with another play-in situation taking place to determine the final seed.  Ronan will host Libby Thursday with the winner taking on Whitefish on Saturday.

On the top half of the bracket, Hamilton (2SW) will play Polson (3NW) at noon followed by Columbia Falls taking on the Southwest's eventual 4th seed at 1:30pm.  the bottom half will see Browning taking on Dillon at 6pm and Butte Central against the Northwest's eventual 4th seed at 8pm.
