Join Local Volunteers For A Meaningful Day At The Mining Museum
The spirit of service and community pride will be front and center in Butte later this month as the World Museum of Mining hosts its upcoming Epic Day of Service on Saturday, May 16.
Running from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the event will bring together volunteers, local nonprofits, and residents for an afternoon focused on helping neighbors while preserving one of Montana’s most important historic landmarks.
Organizers say the idea behind the event is simple: give back to the community while honoring Butte’s deep-rooted history of hard work and mutual support.
Community members can participate in a couple of different ways. Volunteers are invited to help with improvement and maintenance projects around the museum grounds, including work in Hell Roarin’ Gulch and other outdoor exhibits. Visitors who bring donations for participating organizations can also receive free admission to the museum.
Several local groups are partnering on the event, including the Rotary Club of Butte, Silver Bow Kiwanis, Butte Kiwanis, Butte Exchange Club, Action, Inc., and the Butte Rescue Mission.
Donations of food and hygiene products will benefit the Butte Rescue Mission and local food bank partners. Organizers are also encouraging donations of sunscreen, mosquito repellant, band-aids, markers, and construction paper to support the Butte Kiwanis Children's Sunshine Camp ahead of summer activities.
Museum leaders say the event comes at an important time as America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary next year. They hope the day not only addresses immediate community needs, but also helps preserve and share Butte’s story with future generations.
“This is how a community takes care of its own,” said Executive Director Jeanette Kopf.
