A 1970s Kid's Longing for Clackers, Pong, Battleship...
As a product of the 1970s, there's still a longing to reminisce about toys from a decade that offered a limited selection of electronics. Not to mention nothing that resembles the technology we have today. With the exception of retro toys such as Simon, Speak & Spell, Pong, Atari 2600, Baby Alive, Easy Bake Oven, and Mattel's Electronic Football, most that held a child's undivided attention that did not require an electrical outlet or batteries 50 years ago were Rubik's Cube, Pet Rocks, Weebles, Clackers, Big Wheel, Connect Four, Uno, Barbie, G.I. Joe, Nerf Football, possibly Hungry Hungry Hippo and more. As for Cabbage Patch Dolls, they were manufactured in mass consumption in 1982 by Xavier Roberts. So, unless you were able to purchase an original prototype created by Martha Nelson Thomas in 1976, we'll save discussion of that trendy doll for an article about toys from the 1980s. So, what toys did you embrace growing up in the 1970s?

The YMCA in Butte and across the nation has promoted the importance of swim lessons for some time, with very positive results. It all comes from the knowledge and technique newcomers receive from instructors who have the skills to teach people of all ages how to swim. Butte's Hillcrest Harvest Bazaar is Back
Fall is definitely in the air. With that comes plenty of autumn festivals, sporting events, family gatherings, corn mazes, pumpkin patches and traditional outings such as the Hillcrest Harvest Bazaar. This event has been a Butte tradition for years, and is set to take place, Saturday, October 22nd at the Butte Plaza Mall. Originated 46 years ago, the Hillcrest Harvest Bazaar is a fundraiser for the Hillcrest School Association. Similar to recent years, the Bazaar is set to display for purchase, incredible arts and crafts created by a wide range of participants. Per organizers, the event would not be possible without the help of so many local volunteers who care about the future of Hillcrest Elementary School, plus the children and parents of the community.

Music enthusiasts, there are many reasons to rock out! The upcoming event, "Rock the Pit", is by far one of the most important reasons to do just that! As provided by All Events and The Butte Elks Lodge, "Rock the Pit", October 8th at the Butte Elks Lodge, is a benefit dedicated to the memory of Perry Schelin, a local resident and musician who passed away in January after succumbing to brain cancer.
