If all goes as planned later this week, Montana Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) is on tap to be selected to a key leadership post heading into the 2024 election cycle. This should help put a top target over Jon Tester in 2024.

Earlier this Spring, Politico reported that Daines had already sewn up enough political support to be named the next chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). The NRSC is basically the fundraising arm for Senate Republicans to try and increase their numbers in the US Senate.

As the Washington Examiner reports, Daines is expected to move forward later this week and officially be named to the NRSC leadership post.

Barring a challenge to the unpopular Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), here's the full potential leadership slate according to Politico:

Unless someone officially launches a leadership bid, the Republican slate is expected to include McConnell as leader, Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) as whip, Barrasso as conference chair, Ernst as policy committee chair and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) as conference vice chair. Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) is expected to become chair of Senate Republicans’ campaign arm.

The Hill reports that West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) will be a top target for the Republicans:

Republicans say they feel extra motivated to oust Manchin after he surprised them in July by announcing a deal with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to raise corporate taxes and spend $370 billion on programs to fight climate change.

Another top target will undoubtedly be liberal Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) from Senator Daines' home state of Montana. Tester has consistently voted for radical Left policies and big spending under the Biden Administration.

Daines defeated the then-sitting former Democrat governor by 10 points and the GOP swept all other statewide offices in the 2020 elections. Then, just last week in the 2022 midterm elections Republicans captured both of the newly created Congressional districts- with Ryan Zinke winning in the West, and Matt Rosendale winning in the East. The GOP also gained a "supermajority" in the state legislature. Momentum will now build to finally remove Jon Tester from the US Senate.

Republicans face a much better map in 2024. Conservative TV and radio host Mark Levin took to the post-election airwaves to explain why he believed there would not be a red wave in the 2022 elections, but why he believes 2024 looks much better. He said the GOP had far too many seats to defend in 2022.

Mark Levin: The next election cycle, 33 seats are up. Now, listen to this. Two-thirds of them are Democrat seats. So the Democrats have to defend 23 Senate seats. The Republicans have to defend only ten.
