I did what I always do when driving from Billings to Kalispell- I stopped at the Town Pump gas station in Browning, Montana. But this time- I set the can on the table, and I got carded...but what I got carded for may surprise you.

It's a very popular gateway to Glacier National Park on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, for those of you who aren't from around here. If you're heading to Glacier from Highway 2, you've likely stopped at that Town Pump. Or, if you're heading north to Lethbridge and Calgary from the Flathead, you've likely made the stop as well.

I forgot about a news story last year, and I guess I haven't bought energy drinks during my recent stops, but on Saturday I was heading to Great Falls from Whitefish for the Fusion Fights and decided to get a cold energy drink instead of my good old fashioned coffee.

I can't remember which energy drink I grabbed- either that Ghost energy drink with the Swedish Fish flavor (my Stillwater Mine friend told me about that on the way to the Griz semifinal game last year), or it may have been the Reign gummy bear flavored one with the BCAA in it.

When I set the can on the counter, the guy at the cash register said, "Can I see some ID?" At first I thought maybe I grabbed the wrong can and got a beer instead, but then he told me how you have to be 21 (I thought he said 21 anyway) to buy energy drinks on the Blackfeet Reservation.

I still had to kind of laugh that I got carded; though, since I am still about twice the legal age even for alcohol.

I looked it up, and yeah- back in 2023 NBC Montana reported on the news that the Blackfeet Reservation was banning the sale of energy drinks to minors.
