Heavy rain paired with rapid snowmelt in the mountains have triggered a Flood Advisory for southwest Montana. Small streams and creeks are at the highest risk of flooding on Monday. Water may be found on roadways across several counties in southwest Montana.
- A FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 630 PM MONDAY EVENING.
- WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by rainfall and snowmelt.
- WHERE...Portions of central and south central Montana, including the following counties, in central Montana, southwestern Wheatland. In south central Montana, southwestern Carbon, Park, southwestern Stillwater and Sweet Grass.
- WHEN...Until 630 PM MDT Monday.
- IMPACTS...Minor flooding of small creeks and streams that originate in the mountains.
- Runoff may flood roadways resulting in restriction to travel and possible road damage in the foothills.
- ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 430 AM on Monday, radar estimates that a half to one inch of precipitation over the mountains since last evening. Additional rainfall occurred this morning over the mountains.
- Some locations that may experience minor flooding include... Livingston, Red Lodge, Clyde Park, Absarokee, Bearcreek, Chico Hot Springs, Mc Leod, Springdale, Nye, Pine Creek, Dean, Mystic Lake, Chico, Alpine, Emigrant, Melville, Fishtail, Jardine, Wilsall and Roscoe.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Roads and driveways may be damaged or washed out in places.
- Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
- Stay away or be swept away. Stream banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.
- It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains.
- Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
