One of the cool things about Montana is the steak house. While we have our fair share of fancy places, there is something about a good old fashioned steak house that is no frills and just serves up pure Montana beef in every delicious bite. The type of place that you'll find a rancher or farmer sitting down to have a meal while wearing a pair of jeans, boots, pearl snap shirt and a some sort of implement ball cap.
Which Montana steak house is the best?
Well, that's a tough question (no pun intended). While there are certainly some that are more famous than other, that doesn't necessarily make them better. In fact, I won't name which ones, but I've been to a couple that I would consider average at best.
However, according to one TikTok creator, if you were to rank the best steakhouses in Montana, you have to put the following on the list:
- Lolo Steakhouse in Lolo, Montana - No matter the list, Lolo Steakhouse usually comes out on top of most lists. Located just south of Missoula, this is one of those places that isn't over the top fancy, and you can just enjoy a fantastic steak.
- Mercantile Steakhouse in Kalispell, Montana - Located in the old Mercantile Building, Mercantile Steakhouse is one of those places that's a little more fancy than the average Montana Steakhouse. However, the food is wonderful.
- Lindey's Prime Steakhouse in Seeley Lake, Montana - Since 1980, Lindey's has been serving up steaks and for those who aren't all that great with math, that's 46 years. It's a family owned business and is now been passed down to the second generation.
- Carbon County Steakhouse in Red Lodge, Montana - Red Lodge receives lots of praise for its hospitality, and if you're looking for a terrific steak, check out the Carbon County Steakhouse. The menu is impressive, with lots of options, however, the star of the show is their hand cut steaks.
- The Mint Cafe and Bar in Belgrade, Montana - The Mint is one of those places that locals have known about for years. Located in the heart of Belgrade, The Mint has been around for over 100 years and there isn't a bad thing on the menu. While the steaks are fantastic, that Root Beer braised beef shoulder is pretty good too.
Chances are, many of you will point out a restaurant that didn't make the list, and that's fine. Let us know which Montana Steakhouse you would add to the list.
