Western C Divisional wraps up Day 1

Here are the results of the last 4 games on Thursday at the Western C Divisional Basketball Tournament running through Saturday at the Maroon Activities Center.

BOYS: LONE PEAK 75, ST. REGIS 48

The Lone Peak Bighorns put 4 players into double figures scoring and rode an 18-6 first quarter advantage to a 75-48 victory over the St. Regis Tigers Thursday afternoon at the Maroon Activities Center.  Max Romney led the way with 21 while Isaac Bedway poured in 17, Gus Hammond had 12 and Juliusz Shipman scored 10 for the Big Horns while St. Regis was led by Conner Lulis and John Pruitt who scored 16 apiece.  Lone Peak advances to the Divisional Semifinals where they will meet the Manhattan Christian Eagles at 5pm tomorrow.  St. Regis falls to the consolation bracket where they will play Darby in a loser-out contest tomorrow morning at 11am.

BOYS: MANHATTAN CHRISTIAN 91, DARBY 53

Manhattan Christian left little doubt as to why they are a tournament favorite as the defending Class C Champs dismantled Darby 91-53 in a game that teetered on the edge of the 40-point mercy rule for most of the second half.  Seth Amunrud led all scorers with 22 and was followed closely by Mason Venema's 20 and Christian Triemstra's 16.  The Eagles outrebounded the Tigers 37-18 in the contest.

GIRLS: LONE PEAK 53, SUPERIOR 52

It was a wild final two minutes.  Tied 48-all with 2:11 to go in the game, Lanie Crabb appeared to have put Superior in the drivers seat for good with a three-pointer.  But Lone Peak's Kate King had an immediate answer and the game was tied with just over a minute to play.  On the ensuing possession, Maddie Cone found Jessie Bough for a layup with 10 seconds but Darby Haskins was not able to hit the bonus free throw and Lone Peak got the rebound and ran out the clock.  King led 4 Bighorns in double-figures scoring with17 while Cone added 14 points while Jessie Bough and Vera Grabow had 11 each.

GIRLS: MANHATTAN CHRISTIAN 62, DRUMMOND 43

In a game that had 6 ties and 7 lead changes, Manhattan Christian went on a 14-1 run late in the third that gave the Eagles a cushion and in the 4th quarter they blew the game open.  In a balanced attack, Bella Triemstra led all scorers with 17 and was followed by teammates Katelyn Van Kirk and Grace Aamot with 15 while Ava Bellach had 11.  Manhattan Christian will meet Lone Peak in the semifinals tomorrow at 8pm.  All 4 semifinalists are members of District 12C, as Twin Bridges will meet Ennis in the other semifinal at 6:30.  In loser-out contests tomorrow, Charlo will meet Seeley-Swan at 12:30 followed by Superior vs. Drummond at 2pm.
