Meg Murphy-led Cancer Center Golf Scramble & Cornhole Tourney set for September 14
You've got to hand it to Meg Murphy. Sure, her name is synonymous with success. Murphy won a pair of state championships in basketball at Butte Central in the early 80s and later, as a coach, took a program that went 2 years without a single win to another pair of state titles. Just a few weeks ago, her 1999 State Championship softball team was inducted into the Butte Sports Hall of Fame and Murphy, herself, has owned a green jacket for several years.
What you may not know is that for almost as long a time as her storied coaching and playing, Murphy has been spearheading an incredibly fun and successful fundraiser for the St. James Cancer Center. A fundraiser that for the past 16 years has raised over $200,000 for the center and its patients and created the first ever Cancer Center Endowment Fund at St. James. The fundraiser has helped create a consultation room for patient privacy, it has helped kickstart Southwest Montana's only lymphedema program, has helped to bring mobile mammography to Southwest Montana and has helped countless cancer patients in their time of need. Meg and her crew owe its success to its sponsors and participants. This fundraiser is incredibly fun and if you want to take part, now is the time to register.
The 17th Annual "Connecting for the Cancer Cure" charity golf scramble and cornhole tournament will be taking place on Saturday, September 14th with the golf scramble taking place at the Highland View Golf Course starting at 10am and lasting until the wee hours of the morning at Uno's Lounge on Harrison Avenue. The golf format will be 2-man, alternate shot and the entry fee is $40 per golfer. There will be a street dance at Unos starting at 6pm with High Ore Road, plenty of food and refreshments, a raffle and 50/50 and solid plans to send the summer off with a bang.
