Montana Tech Women’s Basketball Hosting Elementary School Day
It's only October but for all intents and purposes, basketball season is about to begin at Montana Tech. True, it's starting a bit early this year but it's for a very good reason. You see, for years the Oredigger women's basketball team has hosted "Elementary School Day" but it has usually come close to Christmas break and usually against a lesser-caliber team than the defending Frontier Conference Champion Orediggers. In either scenario, the Orediggers along with help from the Butte School District, Harrington Bottling Company of Butte and Sodexo would bus local elementary students to the game where they would greeted with snacks and t-shirts and led to Kelvin Sampson Court where they would watch the game. Well, last year's opponent cancelled at the last minute but rather than leave Butte's youngsters disappointment, they hosted an intra-squad scirmmage with each player representing a different elementary school along with dancing, games, autographs, a sign contest and pictures.

Well it was such a hit that they decided to start the 2026-27 season with Elementary Day and it's coming on Wednesday, October 7th.

With time to plan this year, Butte's kids are going to be in for a treat. There will be treats once again from Harrington Bottling Company and Sodexo plus some cool swag from the Montana Tech Foundation plus a variety of fun games between schools, teachers and players as the Orediggers will be split into two teams for a fun scrimmage. Gametime is set for 10am and the young crowd is expected to be loud and crazy.
