Corvallis Head Coach Andy Knapp was not going to let Brooke Badovinac beat his Blue Devils Thursday night at the Maroon Activities Center but in the end it almost happened anyways.  The Butte Central senior star and recent Montana Tech signee fought off a constant double-team in the fourth quarter to score 9 of her team's 12 points, but Butte Central's late rally fell short as Corvallis escaped with a scrappy 37-34 Southwestern A conference victory.

It was clear from the beginning that letting Badovinac get into the flow was not a part of the Blue Devils' game plan as guards Ella Varner and Brecklyn Jessop were assigned most of the game to simply shadow Badovinac and should she get the ball, don't let her get a shot off.  And the plan worked to perfection through three quarters as Bado was held to 4 points and Corvallis rode a 14-4 second quarter run to extend their lead to 29-22 going into the 4th quarter.  It was then that Badovinac took over.

After freshman Arika Stajcar got the quarters first two points from the charity stripe for the Maroons, Badovinac took Jessop into the paint, drew the foul and got the free throw to pull the Maroons within 2 at 27-29.  Blue Devil forward Tylin Sorensen would come alive with a layup and an assist to guard Ava Loran to put Corvallis back up by 6 with under 4 to go.  Badovinac would answer right back, taking a Corvallis miss the length of the court for a bucket and another "and 1" on the following BC possession cutting the Blue Devils lead to 1.  But it would be Sorensen again answering for Corvallis putting the Blue Devils up 3, this time on the receiving end of a Loran pass.  Badovinac would do all she could to bring the Maroons back but a last second three point attempt would fall short preserving the first win of the season for Corvallis who improve to 1-4.  Loran led all scorers with 17.  Butte Central falls to 0-5 on the young season and were led by Bado's 13.
