Butte-Silver Bow Sprinkling Restrictions Go Into Effect
After a particularly mild winter with below average snowfall, water sprinkling restrictions for residents of Butte-Silver Bow have gone into effect in an effort to curb daily demand and also to help the Butte-Silver Bow Water Division to supply water for the upcoming summer months. The restrictions go into effect almost a month ahead of this time last year.
WHAT THIS MEANS TO YOUR HOUSEHOLD
The restrictions again this year will allow for houses with even numbered addresses to water their lawns on even-numbered days. Likewise, odd-numbered houses will be allowed to irrigate on odd-numbered days and there will be no watering allowed on the 31st day of any month and watering will only be allowed between the hours of 8pm to 10am. The reasoning is that during the hottest part of the day, water evaporates before it can be absorbed by the lawn. The water division asks that you please follow these rules.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW THE RULES
It is important to abide by the rules because Butte-Silver Bow relies on surface water both from area reservoirs and also from flows from the Big Hole River. This water supply supports our local ecosystem and even with recent snowfall and precipitation the time to start conserving water is now. Failure to abide by the watering restrictions set forth could result in an immediate $100 fine and subsequent violations could lead to suspension of watering privileges.
Don't risk it. Help conserve and keep your pocketbook safe. For further details or information, please contact the Butte-Silver Bow Water Utility Division, (406) 497-6530.
