Former coaches sang his praises.  "We're extremely proud of, number one, his academics," said Principal and former football coach Don Peoples.  "He's been a three-sport athlete and we all know what his work ethic has been and his dedication to all three sports.  He's excelled in all of the sports, but he has been an outstanding Track and Field athlete and we're super proud of his opportunity to go to the next level," Peoples added.  Former coach Richie O'Brien also commented on Gelling's work ethic and talent noting that he was excited to see what Gelling would do at the next level.

"I'm proud that he's figured out what he wants to do.  He's going to go up and get a really good education with really good coaches that care about him and I'm excited about what his future holds," an exuberant father, Shane, said before the ceremony.  Riley said that he plans to

We asked Gelling about his plans at Carroll where he plans to compete in the shot put and discus and added that they want him to try the hammer throw and javelin. But there is still work to take care of this year with the State Meet just weeks away.  "Hopefully to place at State, that's my goal," Gelling said about his hopes for the remainder of his Senior season where he's been tearing it up throwing the discus.  "I've also been throwing the shot really well this year.  I PR'd (personal record) by 4 feet at the last meet so hopefully I can place in that this year too.  We'll see how that goes."
