What’s Going On This Weekend? Butte Events July 26th – 28th ’24
BUTTE, MT - I see it all the time: people asking me, others, Facebook, or even themselves what they want to do this weekend.
Living here in Butte, people think that their only options are to go to a restaurant, a bar, or a casino. I've made it my personal mission to dissuade those who feel this way and to inform the greater region beyond Butte that we in fact do have a ton of cool stuff going on every weekend.

Gathering the Ancestors: A Reading and Conversation with Shelley Wong
When: Saturday, July 27th, 2024, at 3:00pm
Where: Mai Wah Museum (17 W Mercury, Butte, MT 59701)
Price: N/A
What: "Fourth-generation Chinese American poet Shelley Wong will share new work as part of her second book project, reflecting on the immigration journeys of her eight great-grandparents. Her great-grandmother Wong Lon Ying, was trafficked into Butte as a slave girl for a wealthy Chinese merchant in the 1890s, residing at 21 W. Galena. With the help of a local Butte mission woman who taught them English, the merchant's wife and Lon Ying were rescued by a woman who brought them to the famous San Francisco Presbyterian Mission Home run by Donaldina Cameron in 1902. Following the reading, there will be a Q&A session and a book signing. Shelley is the July artist-in-residence at Dear Butte.
Bio: Shelley Wong is the author of As She Appears, which was longlisted for the 2022 National Book Award for Poetry and a winner of a 2023 Lambda Literary Award. Her poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Best American Poetry, Kenyon Review, and New England Review, among others. She has received fellowships and support from MacDowell, Hedgebrook, Headlands Center for the Arts, and Vermont Studio Center. Born and raised in Long Beach, California, she is fourth-generation Chinese American and lives in San Francisco." Find all information here.
Pathos & Logos with Vittima and From Nothing
When: Saturday, July 27th, 2024, at 7:00pm
Where: The Covellite Theatre (321 W Broadway St, Butte, MT 59701)
Price: $10
What: "Pathos & Logos, comprised of Kyle Neeley on guitar and Paul Christiansen on drums, was formed in 2018 out of the ashes of a former project, seeking new frontiers of creativity and expression. Beginning as a studio project, the band rapidly phased into a live phenomenon with an eye towards a future that suited their myriad needs. Pushing the boundaries of rhythm, intensity and musicality, Pathos & Logos has even dissolved the dividing line between Art and spirituality in a tantalizing blend of ritual and sound that is one of a kind. Deftly moving along the gradient of light and dark energies moment by moment, they are often compared to Meshuggah, Animals As Leaders and Polyphia." Find all information here.
